Description:

Offered here is a fine 19th-century American pocket watch by the American Waltham Watch Company (A.W. Co.), one of the most respected and prolific manufacturers of precision timepieces during the late 1800s. This early mechanical watch showcases the innovative design and engineering that helped establish Waltham as a pioneer in American horology.

The watch features a polished silver case with dual interior lids, one of which is stamped with the “A.W. Co. Waltham, Mass.” hallmark and serial number B515. The back case interior bears additional markings, including 3A and the corresponding production number, denoting its original movement configuration.

Inside, the manual-wind movement reveals exceptional detailing, including finely machined brass plates and blued screws. The movement is engraved “Wm. Ellery, A.W. Co., Waltham, Mass., Pat. Pinion”, accompanied by the serial number 1382636, dating this piece to approximately the 1870s. The balance wheel, regulator, and bridge design reflect Waltham’s high-grade construction typical of the post-Civil War period.
