A curated group of cassette recordings documenting the Grateful Dead during their formative Primal Dead years, spanning 1967–1969.
This lot captures the band in intimate ballrooms and early concert halls, prior to the shift toward larger touring venues. Performances from this period are defined by extended psychedelic improvisation, fluid setlists, and the experimental approach that shaped the Grateful Dead’s live identity.
Included in this grouping are complete-show recordings from key early venues, including:
Shrine Auditorium, Los Angeles (1967)
Carousel Ballroom, San Francisco (1968)
The Matrix, San Francisco (1968)
Fillmore West, San Francisco (1969)
New York State Pavilion, Queens, NY (1969)
Boston Tea Party, Boston, MA (1969)
Together, these recordings represent a cross-section of the band’s most exploratory era, captured in rooms that allowed for close interaction between performers and audience.
All recordings are preserved and presented as complete shows with original period labeling. The lot is offered intact to maintain the continuity and historical context of this early phase of the Grateful Dead’s live performance history.
An important archive-quality grouping documenting the roots of one of the most influential live bands in American music.

Property will not be released for shipment until both the lot invoice and the shipping invoice have been paid in full with cleared funds.
Tracking information will be provided when available.

When local pick-up is available:
