Antique Hampden Watch Co. pocket watch – 17-jewel adjusted movement – “Toby’s Montauk” 20-year gold-filled case – serial #3108360 – circa early 1900s.


Description:

A striking Hampden Watch Company pocket watch, showcasing the fine craftsmanship and precision of American watchmaking in the early 20th century. The movement is ornately engraved “C.W. Tewksbury”, featuring bright damaskeening with floral patterning, and marked “Adjusted – 17 Jewels – Canton, O.” The movement number 3108360 dates this example to approximately 1916.

The watch is housed in a Toby’s Montauk gold-filled case, stamped inside the back cover:
“Toby’s Montauk – Guaranteed 20 Years – 19226983.”
The Montauk line, produced by the Keystone Watch Case Company, was known for its durable gold-filled construction with a 20-year wear guarantee, designed to resist brassing and maintain its luster through years of use.

The dial is an elegant white enamel with black Arabic numerals, a subseconds dial at 6 o’clock, and fine blued-steel spade hands. The chapter ring includes red 5-minute markers, adding a touch of contrast and functionality. The clean, classic aesthetic reflects the period’s focus on legibility and refined simplicity.
